About Beth Lee, BA, MA, LMFT
Helping You Reconnect—with Yourself, with Each Other, and with Life
I have the best job in the world: helping people fall in love again—with themselves, their lives, their partners, and their families.
I’m Beth Lee, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT #94643) offering online psychotherapy to individuals and couples living in California and Ireland, and immersive Relationship Intensives in the peaceful, healing landscape of the West of Ireland. As an available therapist, I am welcoming new clients. My practice welcomes clients of all orientations, backgrounds, and relationship structures. I meet you where you are—with curiosity, honesty, and hope.
We live in a fast-paced, high-pressure world that often leaves us disconnected from our values, our partners, and even ourselves. My role is to help you make sense of where you are, what matters most to you, and how to create a life that feels more connected, meaningful, and alive.
My Approach to Therapy
At the heart of my work is the belief that human beings are resilient, creative, and capable of transformation. My training and theoretical orientation are rooted in Existential and Humanistic traditions, which center on meaning, personal choice, and the potential for growth—regardless of what’s happened in the past.
I see therapy as a collaborative, practical, and hopeful process. It’s about tuning in to what gives your life purpose, understanding what’s getting in the way, and discovering new ways of responding to life’s challenges. My job is to help you move toward the kind of life and relationships that reflect your deepest values.
How I Help
In our work together, I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches that are tailored to
your needs, including:
Gottman Method Couples Therapy
I am Level Three in the Gottman Method, a highly researched approach based on over 45 years of studying real couples. This method is warm and approachable, offers efficient, science-based tools to help couples improve communication, deepen emotional connection, and build lasting trust. It’s equally effective for new relationships, long-term partnerships, and
those in crisis.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT helps you get “unstuck” from unhelpful thoughts and behaviours by aligning your actions with your core values. With over 1,000 research studies supporting its effectiveness, ACT is a powerful tool for cultivating flexibility, self-compassion, and purpose in your
life—even in the face of pain or difficulty.
Other Evidence-Based Tools
Depending on your needs, I also incorporate principles from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). These modalities support emotional regulation, healthy boundaries, and deeper intimacy, especially in the context of individual or relational healing. Across all approaches, my style is active, direct, and grounded in deep respect. I will challenge you with care, listen with curiosity, and walk with you as we explore the path forward.

Qualifications and Training
I hold a Bachelor of Arts/Psychology Magna Cum Laude from San Jose State University, and a Master’s in Counselling Psychology from University of San Francisco. I am licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California (LMFT #94643), and fully qualified in Ireland. I’ve spent more than a decade working with individuals, couples, and families across diverse communities in both the U.S. and Ireland. I am able to see clients online who are physically in California, or through my Irish qualifications, in person or online in Ireland. I was fortunate to be trained by Drs John and Julie Gottman in the Gottman Method – a highly productive approach to relationships. I also served three years as the President of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science. This professional association advances the practice and science of evidence-based treatments from the contextual behavioral tradition. It afforded me an invaluable opportunity to hone my skills alongside some of the very best practitioners in this approach to therapy.
These include:
• Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
• Relational Frame Theory (RFT)
• Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP)
• Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
In addition to my clinical work, I have a background in systems thinking, program management, and cross-cultural advocacy, having worked over 20 years as a leader in IT prior to training as a psychotherapist. This gives me a unique lens on how people grow and change within the context of their relationships, cultures, work, and environments. I am also an experienced retreat leader and former grief counsellor, bringing a depth of presence and a wide emotional range to the work we’ll do together.

So what does all that mean in terms of what we will do in session?
I have a profound belief in the human capacity for positive change. When you lose sight of that, I’ll hold that hope for both of us until you’re ready to carry it again.
